Unemployment claimants fall for eight consecutive month - 14/12/16
The total number of unemployment claimants in Hull have fallen for the eight consecutive month. The total unemployment claimant rate now stands at 3.5 per cent.

In the latest report from Hull City Council, which uses the DWP as its source, the number of claimants are currently the lowest on record having fallen by nearly two thirds since the beginning of 2013. The total number of claimants has fallen in the past month from 6,115 to 5,960.

Councillor Martin Mancey, Portfolio Holder for Energy City, said: ""Once again, this is fantastic news and shows that Hull is continuing to move to a more prosperous future.

""With the recent official opening of Siemens and the continued interest shown by businesses looking at Hull as an investment opportunity, there are greater employment opportunities for all.

""We will continue helping people who need to get the work-based skills they need to find work in the renewable, manufacturing and engineering sectors with our Pathway to Employment programme.""

In addition to the number of people in employment increasing, residents weekly wages have increase since 2015 from £443.60 to £454.
