Awards celebrates apprenticeship success - 25/10/16
Apprentices and businesses in Hull are set to be recognised again this year as Hull City Council's annual Hull Training and Adult Education Awards Ceremony takes place.

The awards ceremony on Friday 28 October will see apprentices and their employers across Business, Creative and Digital, Construction, Signmaking, Health, Teaching & Learning and Engineering & Manufacturing sectors celebrated for their achievements during the past year with 15 awards overall.

The event will see Hull Training and Adult Education make special awards to local 'employer' HD Decorating Services Ltd and 'partner' to Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd for their outstanding commitment to recruiting and supporting apprenticeships.

During the evening, guests will hear from a number of speakers including Howard Charlesworth of Paneltex and Phil Batty from the UK City of Culture Team. Previous winners Rob Steadman and Hannah Bailey will speak about their experiences and the benefits of being an apprentice.

Councillor Phil Webster, Portfolio Holder for Learning, Skills and Safeguarding Children, said:

""These awards are a fantastic way of celebrating the hard work of apprentices and learners who have excelled in their field and have gone above and beyond in challenging themselves to learn and develop new skills.

""Businesses have the opportunity to build a pool of high quality future recruits for their sector, while helping young people take their first steps toward employment.

""I feel very strongly that our apprentices, and the employers that support them, deserve to be congratulated. They are a credit to the city.

""Today's apprentices will play an important part in the future success of the city.""

Local manufacturing company and premier sponsor Paneltex who are passionate about employing and training apprentices will also be in attendance.

Chris Berridge, Managing Director of Paneltex said:

""At Paneltex we strongly believe that high quality apprenticeships are a true win/win for both Company and young apprentice alike. The goal is to maximise the potential of every apprentice involved and we are delighted to be able to sponsor these awards which recognise the hard work put in by individual learners, local companies and Hull Training to achieve this.""

The event takes place at the Guildhall on Friday 28 October at 6pm.
