Decision Record notification: Hull City Council's leader allocates funds following 2015/16 General Fund underspend - 27/09/16
Hull City Council has today (Tuesday 27 September) published a decision record that it is allocating funds following an underspend of the authority's General Fund in 2015/16.

Funds totalling £383,314 will supplement the ward level allocation fund for 2016/17 Community Budgets and a further £180,000 will support Hull City of Culture 2017 legacy work in 2016/17.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Stephen Brady, said: ""Where an underspend has occurred we look at areas that could benefit from additional funding. I am pleased that we are able to share the underspend between the Community Budgets and the legacy work for our year as UK City of Culture 2017.

""The Community Budget additional funding will be allocated to the individual wards across the city which they will then be able to use to support their local communities with matters such as anti-social behaviour, housing, health or education.

""For Hull 2017, we are particularly keen on supporting the delivery of a sustainable and resilient legacy following our year as UK City of Culture, which is why we have committed £180,000. This will help with capacity building and developing legacy programmes for 2018.""

The funding for the Hull City of Culture 2017 Legacy Work is in addition to the £8m legacy budget that has £1m of match-funding from the Council, which has the following objectives:

  • Seed fund to attract further legacy investment from other funders for programme
  • Destination marketing for 2017
  • Future operation of legacy volunteer programme
  • Community health legacy programme
  • Retention of key skilled staff to ensure continuity
  • Enhanced programme for 2017 (world class commissions)
  • Extension of education programme post 2017
  • Knowledge transfer for future cities of culture
