Boccia tournament at Care Home Games - 07/07/15
The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Anita Harrison will open this year's Hull and East Riding Care Home Games.

The 2015 games will take place on Wednesday 8 July between 1 - 3.30pm at Costello Stadium. Residents from 16 care homes from Hull and East Riding will be donning their trainers and taking part in a range of sports and activities including a Boccia Tournament between the Care Home residents, plus gentle exercise to music, Kurling and Table Tennis.

Hull's very own Bee Lady and Olympic torch bearer, Jean Bishop and Hull's rugby legend Johnny Whitely MBE, will also attend the event and will join in many of the activities specifically aimed at the 65+ age group and people that are residents in Care Homes across Hull and East Riding.

Councillor Helena Spencer, Portfolio Holder for Prevention and Safeguarding Adults, will also be attending and says:

""This annual event has proved to be very popular over the last few years. The residents who attend look forward to it as they spend time in a different environment, meet new people and have fun.

""The aim of the games is to reduce social isolation and increase independence. Staying fit and active is really important as it improves physical and mental well-being.

""It has not only inspired many people to take part it has also equipped staff at the care home sites with ideas for prolonged activities and raised awareness of how accessible sport and physical activity can be.""

There will be a number of competitions including the best flag, banner, T-shirt and team kit award.

This is one of our legacy events from the 2012 Olympic Games and part of the Active Gold programme in Hull.
